new RADAR Head-END for AB

We had a burn area in the middle of the screen on our RADAR unit... SO I found this one on eBay.

NICE.... Even takes the GRAPHIC chips from the "slave" radar unit at our NAV station....

AB's New HOME for the 2021 Summer Season

22 June 2021
Dean Perry
this is AB's summer home for the 2021 season...

It's sort of "tight" to our neighboring Power vessel (Brian)... and we "WERE" supposed to move, when the marina manager and workers moved a dock or two.... (move to a wider slip).... BUT........... the way things are (marina overbooked... more renters than slips).... we weren't holding up a lot of FAITH...that a move would happen...

This morning we were told... NO MOVE !!!

BUT with the shear number of large projects to be accomplished this summer (refrigerator; new water pumps for Generator; rebuild of Perkins cooling system; new radar HEAD end; new interior lights (LED's); for galley, and aft stateroom; etc.)
I doubt we'll be coming and going a lot...

RADAR at Helm again.... YEAH !!

Yeah !!!! we now have a new RADAR (head-end) at the HELM of AB…. OUR OLD unit had a burn mark right in the center of the screen….. ALL the ALARMS still worked at SEA…. To show what or who is coming UP on you…. Or What you’re approaching…. (Important at SEA)…. BUT NOW we can actually SEE WHAT’s coming !!! AGAIN…. Yeah !!!

Ruth brought the replacement UNIT down from Schenectady yesterday…. (purchased on eBay)…. (First time I’ve done that)…
The reason the old one had a “Burn area” on the screen, was that one day… I forgot to cover the “see through” areas in the BIMINI…. (so you can see the Mains’L)… and I forgot the cover on the RADAR unit; .
And a meniscus of water formed in the rain that day…. Then the sun came OUT…. And formed a perfect Magnifying GLASS ON the screen… UnREAL !!!

Ordering STUFF - day after day

16 June 2021
Dean Perry
This has been an expensive week.... I've been on various web pages (Defender/ eBay / amazon, etc. )... ordering replacement items or rarely NEW items for the AB....

Our deck brush literally disintegrated while we were in VERO Beach.... I kept the shaft...but finding the right HEAD for that shaft.... was a pain....(because it's been on the boat since we bought her....).... Who knows who the manuf. WAS????

Anyway... we've now got spare RAW water pump impellers coming for both the Perkins (main Engine), and the NL Generator...

We've got ZINCs for the 1-1/2 propeller shaft coming.... We've got a replacement RADAR head unit coming (actually already delivered to Ruth's HOME).... Our's has a burned LCD screen... (Big burn area in middle of screen... SUN, and operation in daylight.).

more later.

friday - ONE WEEK at home dock (sort of)

11 June 2021 | catskill
Dean Perry | sunny and warm
It’s Friday 11 June 2021, and we’ve been at our HOME dock at Catskill, exactly ONE WEEK…. We’re IN a slip that doesn’t really FIT Autumn Borne, and the marina manager (and Owner….) said they were going to move AB…. After they relocated ONE dock three feet to the north…..
Let’s just say… I’m not holding my breath….. But I hope It happens…. IF you look at the photo of AB (hopefully attached to this post)…YOU’LL see why we HOPE the move happens…. There’s literally INCHES between AB and our neighbor…. WHO we love, but it makes HIM extremely Nervous about “coming and going in his seasonal power vessel…..
Some projects (summer 2021) have started…. And we have played some music with fellow cruisers here on shore…. BUT…. The POOL is NOT open yet… and the big white “circus” tent is not erected yet, either….
We’ve ordered a bunch of parts to be installed in the AB… this SUMMER…. Most are being delivered to Ruth’s HOME….because of price and weight…. WE’ll go pick them up….. NICE excuse to see Ruth and LILLY anyway !!! (insert heart pic here)….. !!!
OK….. ON with the day…. More later…

BACK at Catskill Marina for the SUMMER of 2021

08 June 2021 | CM
Dean Perry
WE're back at the Catskill Marina for the Summer of 2021...
We're not in our slip of last year... One of the more senior residents came back from Lake George and Sean granted him HIS OLD slip back....

SO... we're in a narrow slip, a little closer to the OFFICE (and WIFI system).... NICE..

the Pool has NOT been opened yet, and the big white ("circus") tent is NOT up... so the Marina, in General, is WAY BEHIND the normal Memorial Day startup...timeline....

BUT.... it's wonderful to be "HOME"....

We'll Write MORE about the trip up the coast of the USA this season.... (mechanical difficulties, etc.).... and weather.... and the fact that most of our normal cruising friends stayed home this past season... leaving their boats on the "HARD".....

OK... more LATER....
