Autumn Borne Cruising

CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

Running again to the HUDSON River for STORMS

05 September 2021 | Catskill Marina
Dean Perry | Rain
WE ran again with Autumn Borne, to the Hudson River, to accommodate the dockmaster, here at Catskill Marina... for "IDA".

Most of the large boats were either taken out of the water (travel Lift), or asked to leave to minimize the forces on these OLD docks...

Except for the Interruption of PROJECT TIME... it's a good test of whether or NOT the AB is "ready to RUN".... so far she Has BEEN....

We did loose a small inverter (that Powers the aft cabin TV, and entertainment systems)... due to water leaking down one of the cables.... I had spare...

and we lost a coffee percolator (18 years on board).... Started leaking from bottom seam... JUST TIRED, we guess...

Now back at dock, for Labor Day weekend... but Raining now.... HOPE for better weather... but projects continue !!!
:)

New Mantus Anchor ON the AB

22 July 2021 | Catskill NY
Dean Perry | WET season
This is the new Mantus anchor (45 lbs) ON the Autumn Borne's BOW....

It fits much better than the old (18 year) Manson Supreme due to the narrower shank...

The narrow shank allows the anchor to come up farther through our bow roller HOOPS... and have the shank lay parallel to the water...
and IT locks better into our secondary BRUCE.... for no MOVEMENT (while at sea)...

It is, however, still "self deploying" with just a slight "LIFT" of the shank...

NICE

More comparison PICS - Mantus vs Manson

More comparison PICS of the NEW Mantus anchor versus the 18 year old Manson Supreme (which BY the WAY has served us SO very WELL....)

This is an end view.... of the two/ side by side...

NEW Mantus M1 Anchor for AB

11 July 2021 | Dock at Catskill Marina
Dean Perry | Overcast — rain this PM
Sunday morning.... Woke up to "Good Morning Captain"... (Mike Schmidt was outside... ).... We hooked up his boat trailer... he wanted to take the "chinkatyee" out of the water... (SO I drove the trailer to the POINT... and mike drove the boat...
After that task was completed we went to Lindsies for breakfast...

Then I started on my anchor projects. OUR Manson Supreme anchor was, as MIKE called it, "WORN OUT".... The hoop on the anchor was starting to Rot... and had holes in it.... And the shank, where connected to the swivel was beginning to "change it's cross-section"... i.e. WEARING.... Thin...

SO... this AM, I removed the old anchor and connected OUR NEW Mantus M1 anchor...

They BOTH weigh 45 lbs... BUT when you look at them, side by Side... YOU can see why the Mantus might be a touch better at setting and HOLDING... (larger surface area for the same weight...and the cut at the POINT is sharper... and the larger ROLL BAR... causes 22 lbs of the anchor's 45 lbs to be 'concentrated right ON the POINT of the anchor).

SO... anchor chain is Marked every 25 feet... and ready for another season....

New GENERATOR Coolant PUMP.... READY

24 June 2021 | Catskill Marina
Dean Perry | Sunny and WARM -- COOL evenings
This is the new Northern Lights Generator Coolant PUMP.... We replaced the last ONE three or four years ago, IN the Bahamas....

It failed at nearly the end of our 90 days in the islands.... BUT I called back to the USA... Ordered and Paid for the replacement.... Mike Schmidt then picked it UP in VERO Beach.... Pete Brocker then delivered said PUMP to the Catamaran "JILLY-Q" (who brought it across the Gulf Stream, but to HOPETOWN harbor... (we were at Man-O-WAR Cay).....
So Jilly-Q gave the PUMP to a fisherman, who's home was on Man-O-War Cay.... and HE and his crew brought it to US.... Lot's of hands...
NICE Work !!!

Anyway... NOW we have this ONE and A SPARE... and also a spare RAW WATER PUMP...
(I asked about a spare STARTER (touch wood here).... $$$ NOT Bad !! BUT... existing still working fine

New Fridge-Freezer in Main Salon -- READY

24 June 2021 | Catskill, NY
Dean Perry
This pic is of Susan standing next to the new Fridge-Freezer.... a Vitrifrigo UNIT (8.1 CU FT)... This didn't look nearly this large in the catalog !!!

IT took four (4) men and Susan to get it down through the Companionway.... and still we scraped the teak on the companionway...

BUT.... IT's down and working (on 120 VOLT)... (we're on Shore Power)..... It has the ability to switch to 12 volt IF `120 is not available... BUT I haven't connected that yet....
I suppose, IF we lost shore power of any significant length of time.... I could connect the new unit, almost immediately to Battery set #2 (Right BENEATH where it's sitting)....

Demolition of the existing Built IN units begins today....
