Who knew? Beautiful Cape Split

19 June 2015 | Cape split
CH/ beautiful sun, light wind
We left Great Beach and drove to the Shorey Beach to get a look at the compounds of the owners of this wonderful Roque Island. They pride themselves on making due, and being self sufficient raising meat, vegetables and running a self-sufficient farm. Lovely buildings and fields; none of which were visible from where we were moored.

We headed back the way we had come to MDI, from fear of running out of water, food, or in need of a pump out. We tried hard to sail, and had about two hours of acceptable wind, before pulling in the jib and saying simultaneously, " that's too bad!"

We decided to stay half way to Mt Desert (civilization and more for the sailor ready to re-stock) at Cape Split, in So. Addison, Maine. What a wonderful little working harbor! We watched the sun set as we ate, and the growing sliver of a moon rise. As we got ready for bed, we fretted about where to go the next day for our 28th Anniversary, and where to wait out the rain. It's so great with all the good weather prediction ability to be able to plan our moves with that in mind, but it helps to not be indecisive or unknolwedgeable about the options. It takes a ton of research, and you must be in the mood....this night we were neither. We left it to the morning when we were renewed.
