Wonderful hikes on Long Island, Frenchboro

We absolutely LOVED this island. Most of the island is preserved by Maine Coast Heritage Trust, with well maintained trails going for miles over bluffs, through mossy bogs, old beaver pond, spruce forests, and cobble beaches. We saw fresh owl pellets, immature bald eagle, getting harrassed by black-backed gulls, porpoise, and more types of flowers and mosses than one could name. We hiked for about 3 hours, chatted, moved our legs in ways you do on land, many then headed back to Lunt & Lunts for a lobster (me) crab (Peter) roll. Yum. We never saw other people on our hike, but as we neared the town again, we heard music wafting through the forest. It turned out to be a wedding reception. What a joyous day. Headed off at about 2:00 to get to winter Harbor a day early due to the 100% rain prediction. Sailed with the pleasant light wind past Baker Island, but about half way the wind died and we motored the rest of the way.
