Island Down Time

Breeze Fresh, Seas Calm
Since we left Tupile, now about 20 nautical miles to the West, we have anchored in three different anchorages and we have visited about 15 islands by dinghy, mostly uninhabited but with great beaches and also some excellent snorkeling around surrounding reefs that are relatively shallow and protected, and with water clear enough in places to see the bottom in 40 feet. We snorkeled twice over a sunken ship and in general have enjoyed some downtime after the excitement of the Kuna revolution and the water shortage day.
We continue to meet interesting people who have come to the Kuna Yala region through so many fascinating paths. Everyone we have met has an interesting story, and getting here has meant sacrifice, taking risks, and learning a lot about geography, sailing, navigation, and boats. All of this makes for interesting conversation and also for an easy bonding and sharing of experiences. The Kuna Yala or San Blas region of Panama is not an easy place to find out about, and it's also not an easy place to get to either by land or by sea. In addition to the feel of the wind, and the rhythm of the boat, meeting new people and getting to know them quickly is one of the really fun things about sailing.
