Fancy a ride??
22 November 2012 | Malacca
A couple of days ago we left Babar in a marina in Port Dickson and hired a car to drive to Malacca. Using the iPad as a map proved to be challenging with google earth not being up-to-date with such no-go zones as a massive military base right in the middle of our route!! Anyway we eventually got there and booked into our lovely accommodation. It's design was very stylish combining modern elements and the traditional Peranakan style. It was perfectly situated in the old part of Chinatown so we didn't need to walk very far to the lively night market; the sights of Malacca or to partake in the food that the region is known for. Our guide book had a list of must-try Malaccan delicacies and try as we may we couldn't get through the list!! Our efforts, however, were hampered by the gorgeous buffet breakfast that the hotel provided.
After our first night we enjoyed the place so much we decided to stay another night. Also we had met a local woman who ran a jazz bar and she suggested we come along to their monthly bash the following night. What a treat - a sax player from Sweden, a kiwi ex-philharmonic orchestra pianist and a short unassuming Malay woman who had an enormous voice just like Shirley Bassey!!
