Welcome Aboard!

07 April 2010
So your going to spend some time aboard Bacon. Awesome!

What does one need to live on a boat for a while? Think of it as if you are going to a friend's cabin for the weekend, except that the cabin is very small, and floats.

Clothing:
Check the weather forecast and pack appropriately. Make sure you include some warm stuff as it is always cooler on the water. Wind and waterproof outerwear is important. Don't forget a bathing suit for swimming.

Sleeping Bag and Pillow:

Non-Marking Footwear:
Deck shoes, Crocs, Flippy Floppies, Sneakers, etc. Should be able to get wet.

Hat and Sunscreen:

Comestibles:
Snacks, booze, a share of the meals, any other consumables you wish. Refridgeration is limited and there is no freezer space.

Toys:
Snorkling gear, fishing rod, games, camera, a good book, whatever.

Storage space is limited, so try to keep bulk to a minimum. The less baggage to stow, the more room we will have to move about, sit, and sleep.

About:
I have sailed most of my life, although primarily on small boats on small lakes. For two decades now, I have aspired to get a "real" sailboat and use it to explore the planet by sea. This journey is a step toward that end. [...]
