Leaving Tahaa through the Paipai pass we enjoyed a ripping spinnaker run in 18-20 kts TWS over to the Bora Bora yacht club where we picked up a mooring ball. Because of its centralized location and available services we ended up spending the entire week on the mooring at BBYC. The main town Vaitape was less than 5 minutes by dinghy so quite easy to run in for any business or shopping. Early in our stay, we ran over to a spot behind Toopua island where we could hand feed the rays, much like we did in Moorea. This was pretty cool, but it seemed that the sharks were a bit more aggressive. The next day we dinghied a couple miles down to Bloody Mary's to meet friends for lunch and a little geocaching. Found it! Bloody Mary's has been there since I was in high school and serves what are arguably the best cheeseburgers in Polynesia (Yum!). From Bloody Mary's it was a short dinghy ride to a fish feeding station out in the channel. This was deeper than the ray feeding place an d over the coral with very clear water. Here you bring stale bread or mackerel and get swarmed by colorful reef fish - very cool. On our last day in Bora Bora we went looking for another geocache up at an old WW II gun emplacement - fun hike, great view, interesting history, but no geocache ?. We followed that with a circumnavigation of the entire island of Bora Bora by dinghy. That was fun. Overall, we had a great time in Bora Bora and are glad we gave it the time we did. We are now on passage to American Samoa about 1100 miles away. This could be an 8-10 day passage, so while we can update the blog by satphone, there will probably not be any pictures until we get back to wifi.
