08 June 2016 | Northern Hemisphere!!
Gavin
Hello again. The past day has been an excellent one for sailing with 8-12 knots of wind from the east while the boat is doing ~6 knots going NNE. Seas are calm and the sun is out. Some major milestones in the past 24 hours. We crossed the equator last night around 2:30 in the morning. We made our tributes to "Neptune" and ate apple crisp and sipped some Tahiti alcohol drink. We are officially back in the northern hemisphere!! Another fun fact, today marks the halfway point (as the crow flies) between Marsden Cove, where we left New Zealand, and Seattle/Tacoma, our final destination.
The temperature dropped in the night to the point where it was actually a comfortable 78 degrees. That may not seem that cool to all you readers, but we have been in 85+ degree weather for the last 3 weeks. It felt great not sweating all night.
Hopefully we will have a few more days of nice winds and a swift crossing of the ITCZ to the north. Then we turn left and run for Hawaii.
Best -Gavin
