With all this recent hiking you can just well imagine what comes next, right? Ice-Cold Drinks and Bring us some Food !!
****
Not only have we been walking and meandering and hiking our way around Carriacou as of late, all the while waiting for the winds to settle the seas down so we can continue our voyages up island, but we've also found ourselves somewhat quite surprised at the various, most excellent Culinary Feasts we've been enjoying here.
We'd recently experienced a great dinner at The Lazy Turtle, which you can read all about
here.
Then we organized ourselves a get together at
The Slipway. We ordered us some rum punches to start, and we received some ice-cold, zesty with ginger flavour, most refreshing and not-overly-sweet rum punches while we got caught up on our respective adventures. The chalkboard menu is always interesting to read, and this time we made sure to order their signature dish, the fresh tomato-and-home-made mozzarella-cheese salad. The main course was tender veal scallopini. And OMGoodness, every single mouthful delicious. Price was very reasonable, and the service fast and friendly, with the view overlooking the bay quite magnificent. The conversation got louder and louder in order to drown out the sunset cacophony of bird songs, which all was perfect, really.
We'd heard that the hopping place to be on Saturday night was at
Lucky's, and sure enough, sure a short little walk up the road from town, we blinked and almost missed this small roadside stand. It was quiet when we got in, as it was still early, and yet we were lucky that Lucky herself was there to greet us with her two menu choices. BBQ Chicken or Ribs with some home-made grilled taters. Served up on paper plates, with plastic forks, it was all truly finger licking good. Washed down with an Ice-Cold beer! Or better yet, order up a pint of rum, which she funnels from a larger rum bottle, and hands to you, along with your choice of water or pop. And some ice-cubes of course.
And oh, let us tell you about
The Round House (in Bogles). We were a group of 6 and we called them to make a reservation, so they sent a taxi to Tyrell Bay to pick us up, free of charge (with a tip going to the driver, of course). In hindsight it would have been worth the effort to arrive just before sunset to see the views. As it was, we could only imagine as we enjoyed drinks outside listening to the nightlife of the Caribbean. Pretty soon the smells of the kitchen became overwhelming and our rumbling tummies propelled us into the Round House.
The round room location was outstanding, the meal quite impressive. This time I brought my camera, and I will let the photos do the talking.
Appetizers were Shrimp,
Bacon and Arugula Salad,
and their award winning signature dish, Coconut Crusted Mahi-Mahi.
The chef serves up her delicious dishes out of the kitchen of what was once her parents home, with it's unique round features all in a very comfy, welcome home, type of feel.
All with a great price, and none of us minded (wink wink) the giant cob-web in the window.
Then we bought some lobsters from the local fishermen. Doug held a lobster class
and the resulting tails were split wide open, slathered with butter, garlic and breadcrumbs, enclosed in tinfoil and baked in the oven.
Served up with amazing smoked tuna appetizers, prepared by
IzzyR
Can you say delicious, followed by
BURP??
And then we checked the calendar, and would you believe, it just happened to be American Thanksgiving, and we couldn't let that pass us by without celebrating with a great feast on
Banyan.
Curried Squash Soup, turkey with stuffing and gravy, cranberries, Broccoli Jennifer, Carrots a l'Orange and would you believe, a very traditional and most excellent Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream. Oh My.
Enjoying Great friends, great times, all with Great Food Feasts to boot. And tsk, tsk... look at the mess we left on the table !!
Sounds like
Banyan-times to us.
(UN)Fortunately the weather has turned, and although there's many more places to hike to, and eat at if you happen to be here in Carriacou, that all look picture-worthy and appetizing, I think it's time to prep the Sails and Get Going.
P.S. Do you think we hike, and thus have to eat? Or do we eat, and thus have to hike??
