Baiona
09 September 2017 | Baiona, Galicia, Spain
We spent a very calm evening at anchor off Isla de Cies. The boat rocked gently and zzzzzzz……. Think we were woken by the wash from the first tourist boat of the morning. Today’s travels consisted of a move of about 12 miles down to Baiona for what should be our last night in Spain. We had heard that Baiona is a great place to visit so did not want to miss it. It has a cracking castle guarding the entrance to the bay. We had a walk round the ramparts and then topped up on provisions before heading south. We had a very sociable evening with Kevin and Wendy on US S/Y Talisman who had bought and refitted their lovely Oyster in Troon and are now moving her to the Med.
So tomorrow we start the long haul south. The landscape changes dramatically at this point. The rias stop and the coast line becomes a straight line with only a few ports of refuge. Some of the ports are usable only in certain conditions so route planning becomes more important. Our near term target is Lisbon by about the 20th and after that we will work out a plan to get us to the Algarve. Feels like the weather is cooling a bit, so it’s definitely time to get going.
