Our night in Peniche was a little rolly but otherwise peaceful. In the morning we woke fairly early (for us) and headed south, motoring towards the Lisbon Bay area. It was amusing to realise that we were in the middle of a procession of at least 11 yachts all doing exactly the same thing - some we knew, some were new. The world and his ship's cat seem to be going south on this route. I think we saw just one going north. So much for our great adventure :-).
The light winds finally relented and up went the
ParaSailor for a fine finish down to Cascais. At least, we thought we were doing well until one of the
Volvo Ocean Racing boats passed us like we were standing still.
Cascais is a fun place to arrive at, with a big castle lying at the back of the marina. Very modern, good restaurants, a fine barber (G finally relented). We spent the day walking around town (lots of English and American voices) and taking the shore side walk to Estoril a few Kms east along the coast, until we felt we could justify supper.
Cascais must be the most expensive marina we have been to so far - almost Hamble pricing. We smiled at a comment on the CA site about being nervous when you walk into a marina office and they have vast marble floors. Nearly everywhere we go they are falling over to give you discounts for being in the RYA, CA, ARC, etc... - not Cascais. We met various peeps, old and new, who had all landed here as a first step towards the Lisbon area but were planning to move on fairly quickly, if only to the very good anchorage just outside. But all that said it was a lovely marina, great facilities, good food and a fine town so no complaints.
