Day trip to Lisbon
20 September 2017 | Lisbon, Portugal
Today we took the train up to Lisbon to start to do the sights. Seems like we walked a lot. Just getting to the train station is a good walk to start with.
In Lisbon we started with a tram ride up and down the hilly streets. This was a pretty good way to get to see Lisbon and on the tram we met a couple from Oban - small world. We moved on to visit the Castelo da Sao Jorge - excellent castle - then explored the fun lanes and alleys around the castle hill - more walking. Then down to the old Lisbon cathedral - more walking and finally some tapas and libation in the main square to aid recovery before more walking back to the train. Stopped at Belem to visit the Vasco de Gama statue - good to pay homage - and then the train home to Oeiras - and more walking back to the marina. Step count quite high. Totally knackered but a good day out.
As a comment on Lisbon - it was heaving with tourists even though this is moving to low season. Noise level and crowds pretty high - would not want to be there in high season - but a fun visit and we will go back for some other sights in a couple of days. Realising our tolerance for noise and city traffic isn't what it used to be!
I will call today's photos 'dare to be different' - taken from the castle looking down on the rooftops of Lisbon.
