Furthest South Barracuda Has Ever Been....Furthest South.....
29 October 2017 | Playa de Papagayo, Lanzarote
When you are heading south on a new route we can say that a lot, but the joke wears fairly thin for those on the receiving end.
We left Arrecife yesterday to start a meander through the islands. Steve and Bibi were I/C passage planning and general execution of the plan - this was also a good way to ensure all are fully conversant with the operation of all Barracuda's kit. Excellent job done. We enjoyed a light downwind sail with the ParaSailor before the wind dropped, and then motored the rest of the way. It was good to get some practice with the ParaSailor in gentle conditions. The initial setting up is a bit complicated but once it is up we love it. Now we need to try again with some more wind. We arrived at our destination - Playa de Papagayo, on the southern tip of Lanzarote - just as planned in mid-afternoon.
Today's photo by Steve shows the wing on the ParaSailor that stabilises the sail and provides lift in light airs. Steve is currently winning the onboard photography competition partly due to quality of his photos and partly due to the lack of entries from other club members.
The anchorage at Playa de Papagayo was a little busy when we arrived. We found a spot and thought the anchor was holding but in fact we were attached to a rock so we moved to a sandy patch, closer inshore with better holding, as we wanted to stay the night. Our entertainment (well perhaps for Steve and Graham anyway) was provided by the group of girls who were posing naked for sunset photos on the shore nearby. Ah... the holiday spirit - seems like a good idea at the time!
A fine dinner of chilli wraps prepared by Bibi and Kate, followed by a game of Dobble (many thanks Angus and Sarah). A lot of noisy fun even for those amongst us not naturally given to game playing. A gentle night at anchor, rocked to sleep by the gentle motion of the waves and disconcertingly listening to them breaking on the shore.
Today's task is to figure out where to go next - nothing like planning ahead. But at least we won't run out of food.
