Team Barracuda Inspects Lobos
01 November 2017 | Los Lobos Island, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Yesterday we hired a car and went exploring on Fuerteventura. We looked up TripAdvisor, as you do nowadays, to see what we should be going to see. Top things to see / do included Los Lobos Island, the Dunes at Corralejo and the cheese factory / museum. The crew voted down the cheese thingy. With some pain we realised that we had sailed straight past the first two but thankfully a car sails much faster to windward than an OVNI. So we trekked back to the north of the island for our day out. We started with a swim and some sun time on the white sandy beach near Corralejo - rarely do you see such clear water on white sand - and even warm enough for Mrs W. Some discussion about the geological source of the sand which Steve managed to solve for us.
Then on to find a ferry to Los Lobos, which we managed to catch with minutes to spare. A short ride over the water in the glass-bottomed boat took us to Los Lobos. The Island is relatively new (geologically speaking) and is just a mass of lava fields with a blown out volcano at one end. We enjoyed a lovely long walk round the island. Most of the people visiting the island don't seem to stray more than 500m from the landing pier, so once we started to walk away we pretty much had the place to our selves. The walk finished with a very welcome and relaxing dip in the sea in a natural lagoon - so relaxing that you could almost miss the last ferry back to home. And then a drive home, with the sun setting over the rugged volcanic landscape of Fuerteventura. A good day out providing some comparison between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (we held a vote and we prefer Lanzarote).
But wait.... more excitement yet to follow..... We had bought a table-top grill for the boat which we used for the first time in the cockpit to make our dinner in the evening. Very successful. It's a bit like having an electric BBQ. Gives the boys something to do whilst dinner is being made.
