Georgia on my mind

Last night was so still we thought we must have grounded. Only disturbed by the popping of shotguns in the marshes around us – duck hunters we assume, but we did not stick our heads up to check.
Today we Ubered into ‘old’ Savannah for some tourism. Glad we did. We found it relaxed, not busy and very accessible. The British did a really good job of laying out the city all those years ago with wide streets and big squares around which are set lovely southern houses. We took a hop on/hop off trolley tour round the city, and hopped on and hopped off at our leisure. Felt like we got our monies worth on the day, despite a wet afternoon. Add to that a little southern-style lunch of gumbo, shrimp and grits at The Pirate’s House (as featured in RLS’s Treasure Island) and it’s Savannah – thumbs up!
Anyone heard of the film/book “Midnight at the Garden of Good and Evil”? We had not, but did pass the garden / graveyard it was shot in, and it gets much local acclaim. Oh, and quite a lot of Forrest Gump was shot here, and Disney are here right now doing the Lady and the Tramp remake.
Songs with Georgia in the title – there are loads:
- Georgia

- Midnight Train to Georgia
- Georgia on my Mind
