It is only 5 miles to our next destination so we had a leisurely morning cup of tea as I watched a dinghy and outboard drift out to sea. I went out in my dinghy to rescue the boat and tied it up to the stern of Iona. Last year I saw a dinghy at much the same spot and rescued it and after finding none of the boats were missing a dinghy left it at the yacht club pontoon and was told by the bar owner he would look after it – and either keep it or claim a reward. After 3 hours when no body was looking for a lost dinghy I just took it ashore and left it. I suspect some Russians who had a small fast speed boat on the mooring close to us were the owners had probably did not have a lot of experience of tying up dinghies.
We slowly sailed the 5 miles up the coast to the next major resort and anchored close to the reef in the north east corner. Along with Alistair we went on a snorkelling trip over the reef which had a great selection of coral and fish. There was a rock face with some long white antennae sticking out and there were actually several rock lobsters hiding in various parts of the rock – if I had been wearing my gloves it would have been lobsters for tea. There is about a metre of swell and for most of the mile long beach there are some big waves breaking on the shore. We picked the best spot but I still ended up having to jump in beyond waist high to control the dinghy. Then we wade back into the surf to help David and Margaret land their dinghy -not a problem but I just had to sit through dinner with wet pants, shorts and tee shirt. By our return to the boat at 9pm I was prepared for the surf and at least when you get wet on the way out to the boat you can change out of the wet clothes.
