Koh Rang Nok
09 February 2018
Though Koh Phayam is a lovely spot to spend a few days we are now starting to count the number of days till we have to sign out of Thailand. We headed south with 2 reefs in the main and instead of the prevailing North Easterly wind it was now East south East but after blowing a good force 4 for 2-3 hours the wind dropped and we had to resort to the engine. We did see a large pod of large dolphins at least 2-3 metres in length enjoying a feeding session but a couple did come to play at the bow – this is the first time we have seen this in Thailand. By midday the wind had dropped and started up from the west for the rest of the afternoon. Once anchored at Koh Rang Nok in 3.5 metres of water we had a snorkel round just to see if there were any rocks or coral nearby. There was one other boat – Australians but flying a very strange Scottish flag made up of the lion rampant and the St Andrews cross and Scotland in big letters. We met the owners at this anchorage at much the same time last year and having just read our blog of last year Sandra was able to recall their names and the dogs name.
When we went ashore before sunset for dinner and drinks I was amazed to watch a lady with a long pole knock some very large beetles off tree leaves. She stopped when she had three litres worth which she was then going to deep fry – very tasty I am told.
A lovely sunset tonight with no cloud to spoil the final decent. It takes 2.5 minutes from the sun touching the horizon to totally disappearing and everybody seems to line up on the beach to take photos.
