ALMOST TO TELLURIDE, CO

06 June 2010 | COLORADO
RICK 38841
This was one of the most beautiful places I've been so far... I've always wanted to pull into this part of the country and especially the resort town of Telluride. I was there at the right time! The weather was perfect, the waterfalls were just spectacular and the smells of fresh air were just awesome!

I lucked out again! I was searching for a campsite just outside Telluride when I decided to chance going into town for a look around before the sunset.... There was city camp ground that looked like it was full on my first drive thru. This lady kept honking her horn at me... I'm thinking to myself "what lady? I'm going the right way, I'm not speeding, what is your problem???" so, I stopped and she pointed to an empty campsite and told me I could have it for the night, she was going someplace else. Cha Ching! This had to be the best spot in the whole campground!!!! Views of the waterfalls, the river within 10 feet of my tent and soft ground. We talked for a bit and she drove off, leaving me with a free place to camp for the night.......

I did the 10 minute camp setup... (I'm a pro now!) I ran and took a 5 minute shower, got into clean cloths and grabbed my camera for a FREE gondola ride above Telluride! I wanted to get some awesome sunset shots from the top, so I had a $10 beer to wait for the sunset.... good thing I'm not a heavy drinker!! :)-

My camera battery finally died and I forgot my charges back on the boat. My iPhone was almost dead too... so, my photos were limited. (note to self... BRING CHARGERS NEXT TIME DUMMY!)

I'll fill in the gaps tomorrow or the next day. (I'm overnighting in Twin Falls, Idaho, waiting on the weather to cooperate)

I met a fellow biker just outside Telluride who took this photo of me... Thanks Laura! www.laurazick.com

Cheers!

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
