New Plan A (subject to change!)

17 September 2012 | Afghanistan

Okay... okay... I know this is supposed to be a sailing/cruising blog and it's turned into a dual-sport motorcycle and "work related" (cough cough) blog... that's all about to change next month! :) FINALLY... I KNOW!

PLAN A: (subject to change on a daily basis...)
I've given my notice at work... so, I'll be packing up and leaving the sands of Afghanistan! yeah! :) (I know my family will be happy to hear that!)
I'll be heading back to JUNESSA to give her the much needed attention she deserves!!! (I still can't believe she's been out of the water for two years...)

Options: 1) Sail North to the San Juans for a shake down cruise 2) Circumnavigate Vancouver Island for a shake down cruise 3) Sail South to Mexico for a shake down cruise..... hummmm

Then it's time to step up to the plate and flip the coin... HEADS-West-a-bout or TAILS-Around the Americas.... I have such a scientific way of making decisions... haha

It's time to cruise in the DEEP END of the pool, and I want to document it as best I can... I have two GoPro cameras, my good Nikon D300s and a HD video camera with underwater housing! So, now all i need is someone to take all those megabits of photos and videos and produce a DVD movie.....

Stay tuned.... I'll figure out how to post a map with my route "plans"....

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
