On the Hard
21 April 2007 | GIG HARBOR, WASHINGTON
Junessa is still on the hardstand awaiting a bottom job and other upgrades. I could use the same treatment!!!!
I'm learning first hand what it means to own a boat! I didn't account for so many little projects!!!!
If you're in the market for a boat, plan on doubling the to-do-list once you spend some quality time alone on her. The thrill of finding THAT RIGHT BOAT will easily hide all those little projects that can nickel and dime you $$ (in boat terms: $ $ hundreds and thousands $ $).
So far I've changed the VHF antenna up the mast, installed a new thru hull and speed transducer, and toilet intake thru hull fitting, changed out the zinc on the drive shaft and troubleshoot the mast cruising light.... I'm pooped just thinking about it!!!!
Next week should show some huge changes in JUNESSA's appearance and performance! She'll have a nice new bottom paint job, a newly painted mast and boom, a waxed hull, varnished bow sprit and Garmin Radar.
Down below will sport a new Garmin GPS/Chartplotter 3206, XM weather/radio blackbox, and Uniden VHF radio. Then I'll install a marine toilet and holding tank up in the bow, clean the water holding tanks and inspect the fuel tank.
Some of the other things on the to-do-list include: Varnishing the bright work, changing the porthole seals, installing new lifelines, putting in a wood grate in the cockpit and shining up the portholes and the list goes on and on.... Keeps me outta trouble!!!!
Yesterday was so cool! I was sitting in the cockpit watching the sunset with a smile from ear to ear!!! I was day dreaming of when I'd be sitting in a distant anchorage, drink in hand, and taking pictures of the awesome color display!!!
JUNESSA is becoming quit the famous little boat in Gig Harbor! Everyday we are visited by curious boaters. They want to know what kind of boat she is and complement the beautiful lines of the Bristol Channel Cutter. She looks very different from the more 'modern' plastic boats. I can't wait to see her all painted and shined up!!!
I'll upload some new photos in the gallery section at the right tonight or tomorrow.
Cheers from the hardstand!
