TOO MANY PROJECTS TOO LITTLE TIME!

06 May 2007 | Gig Harbor, WA
Either I'm too picky or my new boat had alot more ISSUES than I first noticed...

The bow sprit is separating, so Holly spent about three hours sanding all the old paint and varnish off so we could inspect it. Looks like it will need some major rework to use it.... :(

The electrical system is in need of replacement! It looks like a spiders web behind the electrical panel... so, that will be another week project when I get back.

Today will be the final coat of white brightside paint. She's starting to have a shine again! Hopefully I don't spill the paint can again or put my hair up against the wet paint.... ahhh accident prone.......

I'll install the new dripless stuffing box and drive shaft today. I ended up pulling a groin muscle after crawling deep into the bottomless engine room trying to prep the drive shaft... I have to lay on top of the engine and inch my way deeper and deeper inside. Getting out is even harder! Good thing I'm not claustrophobic.

There are a few engine hoses that have been rubbing up against OBJECTS and have worn half way thru the rubber, so I'll have to replace those as well. I pulled the seawater strainer yesterday and it was full of seaweed...

I head to the Philippines next Sunday for my 6-week hitch, then I'll be back to work full-time on JUNESSA!!!! I am still planning to head North to Alaskan waters on my next break.

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
