1 step forward-3 steps back!

17 June 2008 | Gig Harbor, WASHINGTON
I'm back on JUNESSA full-time, pulling her apart to fix, replace and destroy almost every system onboard!!! The ONLY thing that went without a hitch, was rigging the dingy for sailing.

The hotwater heater element is bad... company is out of business and I can't find a replacement element. Thinking real hard of just pulling it and throwing it.

The oven control is bad... company is out of business... no spares. The three stove burners work, but oven is now a storage space.

Propane tanks are two years out of inspection and someone used JB weld on the threads... Have to replace both tanks.

Battery charger is dead! Bow roller bolts hard to find... and so on and so on.....

LESSONS LEARNED: If you are looking at an OLDER boat, research some of the MAJOR systems to see if the companies are still in business and if parts are available.

I have a truck load of parts arriving from Ship to Shore Marine Supply here in Gig Harbor. Bob has been a HUGE help with getting the parts that are available for my BCC. Thanks Bob!!

I'll be installing two 4D Gel batteries, battery charger, battery monitor and some other goodies. I also have the new SPOT GPS tracker coming and other safety gear.

The rigger will be here tomorrow to replace all the standing rigging and tune it.

Holly came down last weekend and put a fresh coat of varnish on the bow sprit. THANKS HOLLY!!!!!

I hope the 1 step forward 3 steps back flip-flops soon! I need to get a move on and test this ol gal....

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
