More Repairs

10 September 2008 | Gig Harbor, WA
Rick
The past few days has been Radar Mount removal, repairing the boomkin and getting ready to remount the radar in a slightly different configuration. This time, I'll put the radar tube mount in front of the backstay... that way I can make EASY back adjustments, without having to totally pulling the radar apart!!!

The photo shows the repair work on the boomkin... I pulled the anchor roller off and had to fill the old holes. this was the first time I've used the West System of Epoxy. I mixed the stuff according to the instructions and took my time at plugging the bottom of the holes, then filling with the epoxy mixture. I had almost all the holes filled, when all of a sudden my hand stated to smoke and I thought the plastic cup was going to catch on fire! I found out later that I was using the fast cure harder in hot weather, so I only had a few minutes of working time. Lesson learned!!! Once it starts to get HOT--- DROP IT QUICK!!

I've been eyeballing the pieces-parts to get my water system back in action. Tomorrow, I'll move the water pump from the engine room to up under the sink. The current location puts engine oil and fuel on the pump and plumbing along with engine HEAT! I'm sure the previous owners put the pump in the engine room for ease of plumping the hot water heater and keeping the noise down... Since I pulled the dead hot water tank out... I figure I can live with the noise.

I can't believe how nice the weather has been here in the Seattle/Tacoma area!!! Just PERFECT!!! I've been working out in just shorts for the past few days, so I'm getting dark again...

I bought a inexpensive digit video camera, called the FLIP... I'm going to try uploading VIDEO next... stay tuned!

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
