Cape May, New Jersey to Annapolis
29 September 2016 | Delaware Bay shipping
09/23- 9/26; Another early get up in Cape May in order to make sure we took full advantage of the flood tide into Delaware Bay. We had a dolphin escort around the Cape into Delaware Bay which brightened the departure considerably and held us over until the coffee took over. There is some major shipping traffic on Delaware Bay headed towards Philadelphia. Fortunately it’s easy to stay out of the shipping lanes. We got to the C&D, Chesapeake Delaware canal in time to continue the advantageous tidal ride through the canal. Made a brief try to anchor in Chesapeake City but quickly gave up because of the crowded conditions and noisy Cigarette boats cruising around. An hour further south found us a nice peaceful anchorage at the mouth of the Bohemian river. The next morning I watched a couple of guys setting and retrieving crab pots. I’m going to try a big crab dinner asap. Over the next few days we traveled south towards Annapolis anchoring out up the Sassafras river and Worton creek where we caught back up with sailing friends Ron and Deb aboard the Shahrazad. I haven’t mentioned it before but we have seen quite a few Bald Eagles on the trip. Several on the Hudson and in Worton’s creek and the Sassafras river.
9/27 We pulled into Rock Hall Landing Marina to top off the water tanks and wash the salt off of the Boat. Nice to stay a day and take a stand up, use all the hot water you want shower. And we had a big crab pot dinner at the Waterman’s restaurant. Had to get instructions from the waitress on how to get into the crabs. They were good, as was the beer. Not a pretty sight but worth it.
9/28 and 29. Hunkered down in Spa Creek Annapolis riding out some local rain and wind patterns while everyone waits to see where Hurricane Michael goes. We will likely hide out here for a week or so to take in the boat show and wait out the weather.
