Escape River:
26 July 2011
Sunday was 80NM to Escape River which is only 20NM south of Cape York Peninsula. Apart from the distance this is a necessary stop to ensure good timing to make the Albany Passage at high tide and beat the tidal race which can reach up to 6knots in a spring tide (we are at neaps at the moment so shouldn’t be that high). Escape River is a tranquil place surrounded by mangroves and huge crocs! Its also home to one of the big pearling farms which makes navigating the river channel difficult with all the black floats typical of the pearling buoys. Chris keen as always for some fresh local produce, but not so keen to hop in our little dinghy with bait, dropped the crab nets from Bella as we set anchor for the night.
