Cape Stewart
07 August 2011
Saturday6/8/11 we left Galiwinku for Cape Stewart, the wind gods weren't kind and the breeze died out so we motorsailed most of the way. Passing through the Crocodile Islands the trolling line took off with gusto!! Kieran pulled in a 1.2m Spanish Mackerel, giving him a good workout!!! We dispatched him into 7 meals for us and 3 for the dogs!! Although I think we need to find another location to dispatch such a large fish as the kitchen looked worst for wear afterwards with scales stuck to the stove and generally a very messy job. The anchorage at Cape Stewart is in unsurveyed waters, passing through coffee coloured water kept the pulse high!! Poor Bruce from Illusion caught a mackerel of the same size but it leapt out of his hands while he wrestled it on deck so we had Bruce and Dianne over for a dinner of BBQ Mackerel, which was a delightful evening. The seabreeze kicked in from the North East, as the tide rose we sat to this horrible beam swell which made for one of our most uncomfortable nights at anchor - even worst than the Gulf crossing, things falling off shelves, dogs sliding around on the floor, trying to sleep while holding onto the bunk etc!! Definitely not worthy of the anchor symbol on the charts, so don’t bother stopping here!!!
