Port Essington

After looking at the tides and working out the calculations for the next passage we decided to have the next day as a rest day at Black Point and prepare for the 146NM journey to Darwin departing the anchorage at 6pm Thursday to make the right tides. At Black Point we went ashore to explore the local Rangers Quarters and visit the Museum, but nobody was to be found so we just enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the beach collecting more shells and inspecting turtle tracks. The bay was glassed over and there was not a breathe of wind to be seen which allowed us to see the shallow corals which looked so inviting. However croc warnings are everywhere along this coastline and there is a very eerie presence whenever we go ashore that keeps any coral well out of reach. Chris and the kids had a NT swim with a bucket of water on the foredeck to cool off in the afternoon. Hopefully by our departure time at 6pm tonight the local seabreeze will arrive to help us on our way. I just checked our satphone and its so remote here that not even our satellite could get reception, which means I’ll be doing the bookwork and payroll as we sail pass some Aboriginal communities located on Melville Island tomorrow. I just hope the sea is kind as we make our way through the Van Diemen Gulf!
