Another Taste of Mexico
This is a photo from back in 2008, the first time Journey went cruising to Mexico. The boat was full and overflowing with guests come to wish us Bon Voyage before we set off on our travels. It is a memory we still cherish.

More adventures in Banderas Bay
Last week our friends on S.V. Anna invited us aboard for a day trip to some islands in the middle of the bay. That morning the sea was glassy smooth and as we motored there must have been hundreds and hundreds of sting rays swimming and basking just at the surface of the water. Very cool. And several whales made an appearance, although they kept just out of camera range.
Las Tres Marietas are similar to Isla Isabela in that they are an island national park and a habitat for flocks of sea birds. They are much less isolated than Isabela, however. Tour boats bring tourists from all around the bay, so the little beaches are pretty crowded. But the islands have a rugged beauty and we once again got a close-up look at the boobies guarding their nests.
Jeff got into his scuba gear and Joe, Mary Lou, their son, Matt and I all went snorkeling. Lots and lots of fish to see in the reefs just offshore. We had a wonderful sail back to La Cruz and helped fly Anna's spinnaker for the first time.
Matt is also a surfer, and he and Jeff twice made the trek to Punta de Mita to catch some waves. Overland the trip involves taking the bus and then hiking for several miles, so they worked hard for their 3-4 hour surfing sessions. But they both felt it was worth it.
Our stay in La Cruz also involved doing boat chores and repairs, taking a trip to the nearby Mega-store for supplies, going for a run each morning and catching up with friends from previous years of cruising Mexico.
We also saw a bit of nightlife here in La Cruz. December 29th was our 30th anniversary and we celebrated with a meal at a very nice restaurant. New Year's Eve there was music and dancing at a club called Philo's, and at midnight we watched the fireworks while sitting near the breakwater. Last night we spent one more evening listening and dancing to a guest band at Philo's.
Today we plan to anchor out at Punta de Mita once again. Jeff is expecting some swell and wants to get in some more surfing. We plan to stay in Bandaras Bay for a couple more weeks, so we'll keep you updated on all our activities.

Yelapa is a unique little hidden away village on the south side of Banderas Bay. No roads reach it and the only way to get there is by water.
