A Taste of Cruising Mexico

This blog is maintained almost 100% via email over HF SSB (HAM) radio. Access to Internet wifi from the boat has been very spotty, so we seldom have the luxury of direct internet access. As some of you may know the bandwidth for HF email is very small. It typically averages 1200-2400 baud (think 1980's telephone modems). Most people who update their blogs over HF email are not able to attach pictures because the file size of images are just too big to transmit. We work around the problem by shrinking our pictures down with Photoshop to low-resolution, postcard size photos, with an image size of 6-10k. Even at that, it takes us 5-10 minutes to upload each photo. It's a compromise, but we think you like seeing the photos along with each post even if they are not the highest quality.

Since we don't often have internet access, we can't look at our blog regularly. It often may be a few days or weeks before we can see the comments you leave. But we really enjoy reading them, so don't stop!

Our email address at winlink.org is accessed via the HF radio almost every day, so we do see emails sent there almost immediately. Please note that that destination is tightly controlled for spam. You won't be able to send to me unless I explicitly allow it, or I've previously sent you an email. I have the email addresses for most of our friends in the "allowed list", but I may have missed a few. Or if you have changed email addresses I won't know about the new one. We always love to hear from everyone, so if you can't get through, please send an email to my mom and ask her to forward it to us.
