Empty salt pond
10 May 2013 | Block ISland
I arrived at Block Island last night, just before sunset after a day and a half sail from the Delaware Bay. The first day was forecast to be very light winds and probably motor sailing, but instead a lovely 12kt S/SE breeze filled in and it was wonderful sailing. The second day was forecast to be lovely sunny SW breeze, but instead turned into 20kts from the east (close hauled) with heavy fog and thunder showers.
I have never seen block island this empty. There are only three other sailboats here, and the marinas and fuel docks are closed. Today is absolutely lovely sailing/boating weather. What are all you RI & Long Island sailors doing?
I am going to get some laundry done, and take some walks, and then explore buzzards bay a bit (hopefully it will also be as empty). My plan is to go thru the Cape Cod canal perhaps just after June 1st.
