FIRST OVERNIGHT PASSAGE
SV Roama and her fearless crew set off from Pt Arthur after 2 days sheltered from high winds and heavy seas. We got an early start at 3am and after a brewed coffee to get us fully awake, were once again underway. Conditions ideal with 5-10knw SW winds ,calm seas and a full moon to steer by. After a few hours we rounded Cape Tasman before heading north along the coast. The wind has been fickle... Sometimes 15kn before dropping to less than 5kn. Continued on all day Monday viewing Tassie's rocky coast line with the occasional dolphin giving us an escort. By 3pm we were passing Maria Island and Hans was able tell us about his recent trip There with Burney. We enjoyed a nice hot meal cooked by Ian. After dinner we enjoyed lovely sunset and another full moon before forming into 2 hour watches. An uneventful night as we steadily motorsailed on. At sunrise Tuesday we have just passed Bicheno. More high winds predicted for later today with our plan to tuck into St Helens to ride it out before jumping off to the mainland on Wednesday. Predicting a crossing to Eden to take about 48hrs and our first crew change-me(Martin) off and Burnie on.
