I better get to work and update. With Dave and Bill as crew we got over the bar at the Rio mouth and headed north with wind on the nose as usual.Made a couple of stops in Belize and made it to Isla Mujeres. Tom Delong met us there and Bill flew out. Mujeres was a real treat for us with vows of returning. After [...]

After a blow went through we got underway for Florida. Again tough sailing with wind against current but got in to Key West where Tom and Dave flew out and Peter Walker arrived.
Spent a few fun days in KW where the fun part is easy. A long (11 days) sail to the beautiful island of Bermuda and closer to home. Our 9th visit here and a chance to catch up with friends.
Kent Scales and Perce Simmonds got in for the final leg home and a tuff one at that. Will do a final later.

Hi Folks,
Paula and I left Roatan for Rio Dulce but winds were against us so decided to stop at Utila ,the most western is. Of the bay Is.
We actually enjoyed our few days there and brought back memories from 25 yrs ago.
Finally got to the entrance of the Rio which has a bar across the mouth with about 6 ft at low tide. We draw 6.5 so had to time it but got over with no problem . Cleared at Livingston and up the spectacular river to an anchorage for the nite. Next day got to the marina area with 10 or more to chose from.
Settled on Mar marine close to all amenities. For the next while we explored the very beautiful area by dingy and bus till Paula had to leave on Apr.3.
Bused to Guatemala City and had a couple of days for fun and she was gone.
Paula told me many times how much she enjoyed her 5 weeks which made us both happy and sad.
It is now Apr 18 and Bill Macdonald is here and Dave McInnis arrives on Sat.
Bill and I will meet him. We will leave the river soon sail to Isla Mujeres on to Fla. Bermuda and home.
Cheers to all
John

After spending a month alone in Roatan my good wife 1st.mate and sometimes admiral arrived on Feb27.I can't say how great it is to have here. Paula really enjoyed the marina/resort and was an excellent start to her tome here.
Jim and Jeannie Lea arrived shortly after and many good times were had together with lots of. PEI discussion.
I had a car rented for a week so got to see all of Roatan,a great island. But it was time to move on to Quatemala and the Rio Dulce and we left Mar12 with a tight weather window to do the 135 miles. Strong winds on the nose and predictions of worse changed our plans so we are now in Utila ,also one of the Bay Is.
We are making the best of it and are actually enjoying it. Tomorrow the remnants of the cold front moves on so will make the 110 nm.to Livingston at the entrance to the Rio Dulce.there is a bar at the entrance and with 6.5 ft draft we have to hit high tide.
Paula will leave early Apr. so will need crew to go to Belize Florida ,Bermuda and home.
Best to all

A little more info on Bay Is.especially for Jim/Jeannie. i will try and keep it short so as not to take up too much of your time Jim.ha.
The check in at Guanaja was great.Anchor out to the west of the unique village on stilts, dingy in to Zapatas dock and go to Immigration first and port capt.next.
To check in at Roatan you would have to go to Coxen Hole some distance away.
Roatan is not the place we remember from 25 years ago. We are in French Hbr.where most of the cruisers are and tied up at Fantasy Is with use of the resort amenities. Many Canadian boats here. Boy this is getting long.

The people here in Jamaica are the greatest. Always happy and very accepting.I wondered around at all hours and had not a problem. So come to Jamaica and enjoy. They need you.
