Meet Gerry, captain of SV Huzzah, Gig Harbor, WA. We first met Gerry at the 2014 Boat show. He was down to the final stages of outfitting his boat. Searching out the best deals for the big, hopefully, last items on his 'must have' list: water maker, refrigeration, solar, radar, dinghy, etc., etc.,.... if you've followed this blog, you know exactly the items he's looking for! He was planning on joining the 2014 Baja Ha Ha trip down the coast.

He was very excited and full of energy. He had the 5 day pass and would make several stops by the booth sharing info and asking for opinions/ ideas. With 3 live aboard cruisers in the booth, he had lots of knowledge to dig into. ( He ended up with a Technautics Cool Blue Refrigeration System and a Spectra Water maker).

Like a lot of 'almost ready to go' cruisers, life stepped into his departure plans and delayed him a year. He arrived this past fall as part of the 2015 Baja Ha Ha fleet.

His wife, Jody, met him in San Diego and did the Ha Ha with Gerry and another couple of crew members.

(Jody hadn't met Lefty at the boat show, so she wasn't sure about having her photo taken with him. She said/asked, "Oh, we have to hold the 'eagle'? Gerry smiled and said, "Oh yea!")
Unlike a fair number of the new cruisers we see every year, Gerry knows what his systems are, how to fix them and how they work - before he left the Pacific Northwest. He installed his refrigeration system - it's designed to be self installed, and he also installed the water maker. He is a self sufficient sailor, and will do fine as he continues his travels.

We're about to say 'Until we meet again' to Gerry really soon.... in just a few days. Gerry and two crew members will be departing La Paz, making a checkout stop in Los Cabos and heading to the South Pacific as part of the 2016 Puddle Jump fleet.
Jody will be flying back to Seattle tomorrow. She'll fly out to meet Gerry and the crew once they arrive in the Marquesas. Jody's prone to seasickness on the open seas, and would rather meet them there than not feel well for 28+/- days!

We wish Gerry and his crew a wonderful passage and happy days wherever the tide and currents and choices in life may take them.
