Day 2
01 November 2016 | On the Way to Turtle Bay
Light but good winds all day and all night. One tack on the starboard side till noon of the second day. Now we are too far out from the coast so we need to tack in. Then tack again later. Probably before dark.
We made really good time during the night. We started out at the back of the pack. I did that on purpose as being the new kid to sailing I am trying to stay out of the way of the others and anyway the head Poobah said above all else Please don't hit any one else!
But now we have some room the race is on. All night long we carefully moved up into the centre of the pack.
One after another we passed them. First we saw the white aft light then the green side lights then finally the red bow light. Yes, we passed another one!
1 00 am and I came on shift after a snooze after supper.
We passed three more in the next three hours.
As my crew said This old girls just moving along.
O K so we're are not in the greyhound league but we are doing good. We might win a prize at Turtle Bay. Leg one.
At least we won't be dead last. We lost two ships in the night that had to return to port for repairs of one sort or another.
One can't start his motor and has a compromised sail but is continuing.
Rest of the night was uneventful.
