Rivers of ice.

16 July 2013
Flying south from Juneau a few days after keeping company with the Sawyer Glacier in Tracy Arm fjord, I admired this great river of ice from 30,000 feet. When you are at the face of the glacier you cannot see very far into the back country that make it tick-tock oh so slow. Glaciers are one place we can see and feel ancient time all around us. Humans are very drawn to these slow moving rivers. They are immensely powerful, grimly active, and "living beings", like Tolkein's Ents, and oh so beautiful.
