Sint Maarten

Glenda Jay
We had the best sail to St Maarten, from Nevis, except we just missed our friends Frank and Mandy. Having read his blog (http://www.sailblogs.com/member/infinityb/?xjMsgID=346328 ) I now know why they didn't come the day before! We spent a day at Grand Bay trying to get into Bobbies Marina but there is nobody in the office over the weekends, so we moved to Simpsons Bay lagoon bridge to find that the bridge opened
30 minutes before the advertised time and "bad luck you missed it try tomorrow"! Thus we anchored and found it was a little rocky but not too bad.
Scariest time was when we went to check the anchor to find that we had dragged the chain over a wreck on the bottom. Both the anchor and the chain were caught on bits of old rusty boat. Glenda managed by snorkelling to move some of the snags but gave up when she cut her hand on the metal. Luckily when we motored forward to lift the anchor we managed to manoeuvre the boat correctly to pull ourselves off successfully.
We have moved to Island Water World Marina which is giving a very good monthly rate. As well as paying that you have to also pay $10 a week per person to immigration!
Lagoonies is a bar just up the road from where we are and they have a good happy hour and music on most nights.
We are really missing being able to just swim off the back of the boat, the lagoon is not a place to do that.
Jay is working hard trying to sort out how much solar panels we need, me I go shopping! The photo above is taken from the bus on the way the Phillipsburg, looking back at Simpsons Bay Lagoon, our boat is somewhere in the bottom left hand corner.
