Harbour Island...a different Bahamas

19 March 2010 | Harbour Island
We left Hatchet Bay and went to Spanish Wells, a VERY different place from what we have experienced. We quickly left the next morning, hired a pilot "A1" to get us through the Devils Backbone and over to Harbour Island.

We arrived at Harbour Marina to another very plesant change, paved roads, golf carts, colorful houses made of wood, (not cinder block) but still the very friendly happy Bahamians. This is a bit more upscale compared to the Exumas, mainly becuase of the ability of a large number of motor boats to arrive from Florida, and it is a destination for tourists who can fly in from Miami. There are any number of wonderful homes on the market but all seem very pricey...like $9M+. But since we are not in the market, we are just having fun with our friends William and Francis (ALEXIA) and their friend from London, David just toodling about on our golf cart and looking at the scenery, the bouganvilla, stopping in here and there to admire a hotel and grounds, and picking up a fresh conch lunch at a road side stand.

Everyone drives on the left side of the road in the Bahamas which is a challenge, but the speeds are not excessive. Tonight we drive to a BBQ of jerk chicken and ribs. Wish us luck!
