SLEEPY TOWN DOWN SOUTH
06 April 2011 | FERNANDINA, FL
Fernandina, FL is a really nice stop.
It has history, old world charm, a working railroad through the town, a container port for worldly ships and an active fishing fleet.
There are also, the occasional ice cream parlor, T shirt vendors, christmas stores and giclee "art" stores to take care of the tourists. In short, it can take care of the tourists, but also make it on it's own.
Across the river and the grass marches lies Georgia and two miles to the north, Cumberland Island.
In the morning at 08:00, we head out the inlet and north to Charleston SC. We will arrive with a rising tide early the following morning. Blessed Spirit will be lifted there onto the hard, her bottom painted and a few maintenance items repaired.
In the mean time, the three of us will drive a rental car north to Edgecomb, Maine, to open our house and start the gardens.
We have been on Blessed Spirit over 6 months and it will be great to get ashore. But come next fall, no doubt, we will be longing to feel the seas beneath our feet and Demi on the coach roof, the wind upon her nose.
Next fall we shall be transported again by our very loyal "Blessed Spirit" to new locations in southern waters.
