Meeting up with the Water Dogs

07 April 2018 | Korčula, Croatia
Joni
We spent a few days on Korčula, and had Easter there. Easter was very fun. Eggs were hidden all over Blue Hour and Jonas and I looked for them. Then we headed to Manastir on the island of Sčedro. When we were sailing in Newfoundland and Greenland a few summers ago, we sailed with another boat named Water Dog that had three kids. We saw them last in the summer of 2016 in Iceland, because they were going to keep cruising year-round and we had to go home for the winter. Water Dog is hauled out in Estonia, but they are chartering a boat in Croatia called Ana. We met up with Gavin, Val, Gabe, Lauren, and Amelia at Manastir, on the island of Sčedro and are going to sail with them until they go back to Estonia. In the summer, they are going to sail Scotland with us on Water Dog. We all went for a hike across the island and Sirius played with another dog named Lero whom he really liked. The Water Dogs came over for Easter dessert that I had made. The next day was very hot, so we sat in the cockpit on Ana (because Blue Hour's cockpit is like a greenhouse in the sun and it was 39 degrees Celsius in there). I read and Jonas and Lauren went swimming. Then we went for another hike and Jonas, Lauren, Gabe, and Amelia made an aquarium on the beach with creatures they had found nearby.

"We found this weird sea urchin that had shorter spikes than the regular ones and it was purple, but the end of the spikes were white. We have seen sea cucumbers in the past few anchorages and we got a sea cucumber and we got this weird sea centipede thing that was glowing bright red around its edges and it was so cool but a bit creepy. And we got some regular sea urchins and lots of hermit crabs. One hermit crab was in a land snail shell." -Jonas

We went for another hike with Lero the dog and Sirius the next day. That morning, we got an email from some people in Norway saying that they had gotten the message in a bottle that we had cast overboard on the passage from the Faroe Islands to Scotland in July. The pictures they sent from Norway made us decide to go there in the summer of 2019. We sailed to Uvala Duboka Vela on the island of Sv. Klement and anchored in the wilderness, which was a nice change from all the towns we had been going to. We went for yet another hike and Jonas, Gabe, Lauren, Amelia, and I played a game.

Hvar was a very nice town, with old stone buildings and a large old castle at the top that we hiked up to. Now we are at Uvala Stonca, on the island of Vis.
