Montenegro

Montenegro is very beautiful. We are going to spend our one week in Montenegro in the Bay of Kotor, the nicest place. We checked in at Zelenika, then sailed to the town of Herceg Novi. It is a tourist town, but still nice. The houses are old stone and it’s surrounded by mountains. We walked to the old town and on the way met three stray puppies and their mom. The puppies were a little older then Sirius when we first got him, and one of them looked a bit like Freddie, a stray pup we met in Greece. The mom dog wouldn’t let Sirius near the puppies (for good reason, because Sirius loves meeting new dogs but he’s never been near any puppies). We went out for dinner and left Sirius on Blue Hour. We hadn’t been out for dinner for a long time, because of Sirius, but we’re now training him to stay home alone. The food was very good. We ate dandelion salad, risotto, seafood skewers, and calamari. It was 64 euros per night to stay docked there, so we hurried to go shopping the next morning so we could leave that afternoon. First, we went to the pet store and stocked up on lots and lots of good dog food for Sirius, since we had run out of good dog food that morning and only had the bad stuff left. We bought four huge bags and took our trolley to carry it back. Then we went to a very good market that sold fresh fruits and vegetables that come into season in June in Toronto, like strawberries.
We sailed to an anchorage called Otok Stradioti, where two wild dogs raced Zoom to shore. The water was 23 degrees Celsius, so we went swimming off a beach and tried to get Sirius to come in. He refused to go in the water, so Dad and I went for a walk. There were many abandoned huts from when the island used to be a tourist destination and lots of junk that Sirius kept getting into.
The next day, we sailed to Risan, an old Venetian town. It is surrounded by tall mountains that look like the mountains in Greenland, except greener. It’s very lush here, which is a nice change from Greece and Croatia, where it is quite dry. We wanted to hike to the top of a large hill, but it was so hot that Jonas and I couldn’t do it. It wasn’t even very hot, but we hadn’t been in weather that hot since Portugal and weren’t used to it. Today, we might see some old Roman mosaics.
