Tahanea atoll

13 June 2011
Narama joined us and we celebrated Heidi's birthday the day before we left Raroia. Yet another passage with the same boats! Caliyd, Wachagunado, Britania and Pico left from Makemo and, for a the first time, we are now all in the same anchorage. Within an hour of arriving here at Tahanea, I was off to drift dive the pass, zooming over 'rivers' of tiny blue fish that swam between the coral below me. A group of giant mantas were feeding in the strong current, so we took the dingy back again and again to watch them fly past, furling their tactile horns to dive below us then unrolling them to form a basket to funnel in the plankton.
