On our way to Tahiti

28 June 2011
Amyot is a gem. The family who live on the little island maintain moorings inside a tiny bowl of protected lagoon that is really just a break in the reef. We snorkeled around their fish trap, like an aquarium inside with huge schools of squirrel fish and snapper, giant blue finned traveli, sharks, rays and giant moray. I was photographing one shark that was 'pacing' along the wire 'fence' when he suddenly poked his head up out of the water, over top of the fense, and wrigged out to freedom just a few feet from my face. He was more interested in escape than dinner, luckily. They also put on a feast there, which was an excellent meal with good friends and lots of fun. Sadly it is time to go, and we are now en route to Papaete.
