Vavau Regatta
17 September 2011
We had timed our arrival in Neiafu to coincide with the annual sailing regatta. Since our performance would have been seriously hampered without our headsail, and our priority was to stabilize the rig, we withdrew from the races and entered only the land events. We reunited with people we have not seen since Mexico, including Neil, Ruthie and Cory on Rutea, who arrived on the same day as we did, and many of the boats we have been criss-crossing the Pacific with who are here too. We also found several of our old friends from previous trips here. The organizers went to a lot of effort so it has been a lot of fun. We didn't get any prizes but were quite chuffed to be the last adults in the limbo contest. See http://www.regattavavau.com/ We had barely finished the last beer at the prizegiving when our good friend Sarah and her sister Alice arrived from NZ to spend a couple of weeks with us. There are no riggers in Tonga and too many issues with getting a new forestay sent up from NZ. We have removed the roller furler for now, re-rigging Blue Moon with the cutter gear she left NZ with.
