Chesapeake City to Delaware Bay
30 April 2016 | Cape Henlopen, DE
Gray 50s breezy
Left at 6 a.m., didn't quite hit the tides right, and worked hard to keep the boat going 4.5 knots for the balance of the canal. The reward however came when we got to the Delaware Bay, and ran over 9 knots for quite a few hours. Not until the last hour or so did we loose the current, by then we had made 80 miles or so. We decided to go into the harbor of refuge behind Cape henlopen as the anchorage in Cape May is small and poor holding, and it was getting lousy with wind and sea building. It was a good decision, a huge amount of room to anchor and a beautiful beach and state park to explore. The sun even came out for a few hours before we went below for the night. The challenge of the Jersey shore awaits and the weather is not improving.
