Prep day for the departure to the States!!

Beautifull calm morning-clear skies- flat waters- call of the loons-

Raised anchor at 0900- motored to town dock past the fish farms/ multiple cages-- water rust colored- minimal salt to taste due to waters draining into the harbour from the rivers.

Docked boat @ SHYC fuel dock -easy access

Fuel/water- walk to town for provisions after picking up mooring ball in front of SHYC.

Friendly / helpfull people at the Marina and in town!!

Motor of dinghy repaired-Spark plug replaced-

Chats with fellow boaters familiar with the crossing to the USA- decision made to cross over to Province Town, Cape Cod Bay-versus Portmouth

Course plotted-Family advised as to the intention to leave at 0600 hours- ETA Sunday-Sept 6,2009 @ 0930- (at speed of 5.5 knots)

Will call u[pon arrival in the States!!

Captain and crew up at 0700 hours.
2nd and 3rd mate packed up their bags and made preparations to go to shore and await pick up by Jeff to return home.
Motor of dinghy still not working- -2nd mate back to rowing crew to shore- 1st Nat and bags , then Captain and1st mate.

A difficult goodbye ( especially for 1st mate) at the bakery - around 0815 hours

Captain Paul and 1st mate,Marianne ,returned to boat via dinghy rowed by Paul- anchor raised- waved goodbye until Natalie and Matthew were out of sight.
0845 hours-No wind- skies clear- no clouds- seas calm- water temp- 57.8F

Sun setting- moon rising as anchoring off Hartspoint- Shelburne Harbour- @2000 hours- approximately 2nm from Shelburne-

Full moon- waters calm- call of a loon in the distance!!!!

Distance travelled fron Hackett's Cove to present- 121 Nautical Miles

Captain and crew up at 0700 hours.3rd mate , Nat, slept in main cabin- starboard side with Lee cloth- 2nd mate, Matt, crawled out of aft cabin asking when he would be departing for home- definitely not "crossing the Gulf of Maine material"!!

To town via dinghy- -motion sickness bracelets purchased by 3rd mate.- enjoyed walk around town- returned to ship and raised anchor at 1000 hours.

Motoring- 2nd mate at the helm- seas rolling- no wind- clear blue skies Bluenose sailing vessel on the horizon.


Arrived at the LaHave bakery -via motor- at approximately 1300 hours.
2nd and 3rd mate feeling better-dropped anchor- to shore via dinghy- enjoyed lunch at the bakery followed by browsing through the shops and visiting the Fort Point Museum.

Mat for a swim at the beach- Matt returned to boat via dinghy to pick up a book- unable to start engine upon the return to shore- rowing to shore required- an oar broke- return to boat with use of broken oar for replacement set of oars- then returned dockside with 2 functioning oars. Captain , unable to start engine, suspected a "flooded "engine.
Decision made by the captain and 1st mate to go for a walk- 2nd & 3rd mate , staying at dockside happily reading their books in the sunshine.

Engine retried at 1700- no luck-2nd mate, Matt, rowed crew and captain back to boat- 2 trips- happy with the exercise routine!!!

1800 hours- finally all aboard- Relaxation- happy hour and then BQ salmon dinner with kamut pasta and greens cooked by 2nd mate.
Fun evening - captain and crew feeling well!!!!
