Concert for Peace
17 October 2007 | Washington, DC
Donna Glessing

Yesterday we had a rare treat. We attended a concert at the National Cathedral In Washington, DC entitled 'A Prayer for Peace'. The concert had been organized by noted members of the music industry including Graham Nash & David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills & Nash fame. Let's leave Young out of it for now!) and Jackson Browne. The concert was also attended by a contingent of senior monks from the Dalai Lama's monastery in India who created this beautiful sand mandala as an offering to peace.
The whole evening will be one we will long remember. But Dave also has fond memories of the morning. We arrived at the cathedral early, intending to spend the day doing a speedy exploration of Washington. We decided to take a look in the cathedral before heading in to the city itself, and found ourselves in the middle of a press conference being hosted by the event organizers. We spent a few minutes listening in before the conference ended and the press moved away, giving Dave the opportunity to shake hands and speak for a few moments with one of his music heros, Graham Nash.
The tour of Washington was sufficient for us to decide that we want to come back for a closer look next summer. But the highlight of our day was the evening concert. We were treated to performances by Crosby & Nash, Jackson Browne, Keb' Mo', Emily Saliers (of the Indigo Girls) and Krishna Das and a rousing finale when all the performers came 'on stage'. Wonderful entertainment in a worthwhile cause, and all the more special for it.
