We had the usual conversations about our retirement boat how big? How much? When should we buy ? etc etc and had even drawn up a list of suitable models.
At this time we had a quarter share in a Moody 419 based in Largs on the west coast of Scotland.
It all started in March 2014 when Richard came across BoB ( then called Noyna) a Moody 419 for sale in Corfu, he called the broker for more details and before we knew it we were out in Corfu. First impressions were not good and had obviously put off all others. There were floorboards missing, the woodwork had lots of ingrained black mould, the headlinings hanging down, the bunk cushions were falling apart- you get the picture. But that was all superficial and we knew how it could look with a bit of work.
Then the survey, where to begin the keel bolts were rusted, the mast compression post corroded, the coach roof compressed, steering cables were corroded and unsafe and the fuel tank leaking. It was 2 years earlier than we intended to buy.
I wanted to walk away there were too many complications but Richard loves a restoration project and following some negotiations we were the proud owners of BoB.
Had we been in Scotland it would have been easy to arrange repairs but in Corfu this was a much more daunting task. However at this time we have had the keel bolts replaced, a new shiny mast compression post, fuel tank epoxied (turned out not to be leaking) steering cables replaced and a new floor fitted.
The plan is to sail around the Ionian this summer and lay up in Corfu for the winter. We are heading out to Corfu on Thursday 11/6/15 and hope to launch BoB the following Monday.
