BAD HAIR DAY

I thought I was getting the hang of this parlez Spanish stuff. Well, wanted some hair shampoo for dry hair (no doubt too much sun!) went to the supermarket and trolled along the shampoo shelves looking for ‘seco’ on the bottles. And there they were. Bought one, rushed back full of excitement, leapt into the shower, plastered my hair and nothing happened. Put a load more on to get things going and ended up with a horrible sticky mess. It was stuff for very dry hands. Try it at home if you have some spare time and the weather’s awful outside. Took some hard work with body wash to get it off. Reminds me of one time in France years ago buying some nice herbally green shampoo but was saved by the lovely checkout lady who asked if I really wanted green hair dye. I think it’s time to get a carer.
There’s a strong sport fishing fleet here. Very fancy and complex looking boats. The tactic seems to be to catch a load of mackerel, put them in large containers of water so kept alive then release them when tuna or blue marlin are sighted to attract them. I think the marlin are released, being protected. The boats can have many lines out and when a biggie is hooked everything bar the active line has to be got in lightning quick, usually by the crew on board. The boat is then driven backwards, if necessary, to follow the catch. There are many stories of damage to boats and people. These fish are pretty awesome and pretty pissed off when caught. Sadly there have been almost zero charters for these guys for many months. There is good hope there will be charters come March and I’ve been invited on one as a spectator. I hope I am able to take up the offer if still here.
Good weather has returned here after a spell of rainy days - the island needed it - it seems slightly strange seeing Christmas lights etc in a warm climate. I miss my cosy wood burner.
A friend back home, Robin Buchanan, is raising charity cash by endeavouring to sea swim every week off Dawlish beach until the end of April. Fantastic effort Robin and remember I will be sharing your pain even more by sea swimming 3 or 4 times a week.

The picture today is of the stern ends of some of the sport fishing boats. The long poles jutting out over the pontoon are the larger fishing rods.

Flights booked home from 12/01 to 18/02. Looking forward to time back.

Take care all of you
Robert
