Sailing the coastal waters of Southwest Florida, the Keys, and the Bahamas

Vessel Name: Delilah
Vessel Make/Model: Gemini 105Mc Catamaran
Hailing Port: Whiteland, IN
Crew: Mark & Kim Hayes
About:
We have been sailing over 25 years. Starting with a 14 foot sailboat, then a Catalina 22, and next a Pearson 27 before buying our dream boat the Gemini. This is our seventh season aboard Delilah. We are seasonal coastal cruisers, spending the winters on the boat in Florida. [...]

Season 7 aboard Delilah begins

It has been a really long time since our last post. Last year's cruising season was cut short when I ruptured my Achillie's tendon playing pickle ball in Marathon in the Florida Keys on Feb 18th. We flew home and I had surgery March 1st. The surgery went well and 6 months later I was mostly back to [...]

Man plans ... God laughs!

I am writing this blog on the couch with my left leg propped up on two pillows in our house in Whiteland, Indiana. A week ago today, I ruptured my left Achilles tendon while playing pickle ball. There was loud pop and I went down. Next thing you know, everyone was helping me and Kim. Applying first [...]

Still Enjoying Marathon

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone from Boot Key Harbor. We continue to enjoy our time in Marathon, especially life on a mooring ball. We've been here for one month and I just paid for another two weeks. This is highly unusual for us to stay in one place. We're not exactly the relaxed type of people! Within [...]

Enjoying Marathon

Kim said it was my turn to do a post ... so both your luck and mine ran out! We are still in Boot Key Harbor, but now tied to mooring ball U1. We were 10th on the waiting list and it took 12 days before we got the call. What a relief it is compared to anchoring in tight quarters in shallow water. [...]

Made it to the Keys!

Hello. We are currently anchored in Boot Key Harbor at the Marathon City Marina. Waiting for a mooring ball. When we arrived on Thursday, January 14, we were #10 on the wait list. Today we are #6. We hope to be on a mooring ball in about a week (or less!).

Heading to the Keys...

On a quiet morning sprinkled with rain, we set out for warmer temperatures. We have spent the last six nights at Ft. Myers Beach mooring field. Today we are making our way south down the coast to Marathon in the Middle Keys. With luck we might be able to pick up a mooring ball at Boot Key Harbor. There [...]

All about Delilah

09 February 2016 | Fort Myers Beach
This post is all about the boat, Delilah. I thought some, especially the boaters would like to know more about the boat and the non-boaters will probably fall asleep before they get half way through. We will try to take some more pictures and post them in a separate album "Delilah".

Delilah is a 2006 Gemini 105Mc catamaran sailboat. She is hull #932 and made in Annapolis, MD. Meaning the 932nd Gemini built, although previous Gemini models are included in the count. We are the 3rd owners.

The layout picture tells a lot about the interior so I won't describe what you see there, except to mention that the gray area in the middle is the saloon. Boat lingo for where you sit and eat. The table can be dropped and made into a queen size bed. So the boat can sleep 8, but I can't quite imagine where all their stuff would go!

Just the facts ma'am ...

• Length 34 feet, Width 14 feet
• Bridge clearance 46 feet
• Mast 39 feet, Boom 10 feet
• Minimum depth 18 inches (boards and rudders up)
• Maximum depth 5 feet 6 inches with center board down
• Holding Tank 18 gallons
• Fuel Tanks (2) 18 gallons each
• Water Tanks (2) 30 gallons each

Delilah is equipped with three sails; main, jib/genoa, and cruising spinnaker called a screecher. When the wind isn't blowing in the right direction she is powered by a Westerbeke model 30B/Three 27 horse 3 cylinder diesel engine. The engine had less than 400 hours when we bought her, barely broke in. Under normal cruising speed and conditions we use 3/4 gallon an hour. There is a drive leg that hangs in the middle of the stern which is lifted when sailing to avoid drag.

Delilah has 3 batteries which power the 12 volt DC systems in the boat (lights, water pump, sailing instruments, etc). There is a solar panel mounted on top of the dinghy davits that so far has been able to keep the batteries charged. We are stingy in our use of 12 Volt systems to not run the batteries down too low.

The refrigerator/freezer is a Dometic, the same that you see on RVs. It runs on propane. We have 2 standard 20lb propane tanks and so far we can go about 3 weeks on a tank. The two burner range and oven also run on propane.

We have a portable Yamaha EF200iS Generator which we run about 90 minutes a day to charge up the laptops, tablets, phones, etc.

We have an inexpensive 9 foot inflatable dinghy with a 2.5hp Suzuki to get us to and from land. This comes in handy since we seldom are docked in a marina, preferring to anchor out or be tied to a mooring ball.

Much more could be described, but hopefully this gives you a better idea of Delilah the catamaran sailboat. She is a sweet sailboat!

fair winds,
Mark & Kim aboard s/v Delilah
